Thompson Announces State College Student as Winner of Congressional App Challenge

Mar 8, 2016

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) announced that Lachlan Campbell, a student at State College High School, is Pennsylvania’s 5th Congressional District’s winner for the 2015 Congressional App Challenge.  Campbell’s software application, or “app,” is entitled “Noodles,” and is designed to store the recipes of users and to help them discover new dishes to create.  The app has several hundred users in more than 40 countries.

“I am so impressed by Lachlan’s efforts and the ingenuity of all the students who designed apps for this competition,” Thompson said.  “This is a great way to reinforce the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in our schools and to open the door to in-demand careers in our growing technical fields,” added Thompson, co-chair of the bipartisan House Career and Technical Education Caucus.

The Congressional App Challenge is an annual competition intended to highlight the value of computer science and STEM education by encouraging students to learn how to code through the creation of their own apps.  More than 1,700 high school students from 32 states participated in this year’s competition.  Winners from each participating congressional district were honored at a Washington, D.C. reception this week.
