Thompson Announces Appointment of Rebecca Layng to the U.S. Air Force Academy

 

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-05) announced that Rebecca F. Layng of State College, Pennsylvania, has accepted an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy.  Rebecca is the daughter of Ken and Megan Layng. 

“It is a pleasure to announce that Ms. Layng will have the opportunity to follow in her grandfather’s and brother’s footsteps to serve in the United States Air Force,” said Thompson.  “It is truly an honor to nominate her to the academy and I wish her the best as she approaches this exciting opportunity.”

Rebecca F. Layng, 18, attends Grace Prep High School and ranks 2nd in her class with a 3.89 GPA.  Ms. Layng is a member of the Nittany Composite Squadron and served as the Cadet Commander in 2014.

Additionally, Ms. Layng is on the varsity soccer team and is a member of the track club at Grace Prep High School.

Outside of the classroom, Rebecca Layng is active with her church’s youth group and has spent a great deal of her time tutoring younger students in English and mathematics. 

Ms. Layng’s paternal grandparents are Marianne and the late Frank Layng, Wilmington, Del., and maternal grandparents are Nancy and the late Edwin Brown of Hartsdale, New York.
