Apr 15, 2010

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, today learned the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded the University Park Airport in State College, a $251,690 grant for the second phase of construction for a new Air Traffic Control Tower (ACTC).

“These grant funds are a key source for the siting and the construction of the airport’s first ATCT facility,” said Bryan Rodgers, Director of the University Park Airport. “It is anticipated that construction of the ATCT will be complete in November 2010 and the ATCT will become operational in January 2011.  When operational the ATCT will enhance safety and increase the ability of University Park Airport to attract general aviation operators and to improve air service for everyone in the region.”

“This funding will start the electrical work necessary for the tower as well as enable the siting,” said Thompson.  “The tower will improve operational efficiency and ensure a level of safety for the operations and the varied aircraft at the airport.”

Funding comes from the Federal Aviation Administration under the U.S. Department of Transportation.
