Bellefonte, PA - U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson (PA-5) today announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded a grant in the amount of $199,530.00 to Keystone Rural Health Consortia in Emporium, Cameron County, Pennsylvania.

“It is often an incredible challenge to expand access to high-quality health care services in rural areas,” stated Rep. Thompson. “This funding will enable Keystone Rural Health to expand its service capacity and increase access to comprehensive primary health care services for residents of the surrounding area.”

The grant was awarded by HHS’s Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), through Health Center Expanded Services Supplemental Funding (ES), which supports community-based organizations that serve populations with limited access to health care.  Keystone Rural Health Consortia will use the funding to expand primary care services, including the hiring of a new full-time physician.

“Keystone Rural Health was pleased to receive notification of the Supplemental Funding HRSA has awarded to us and the other Health Centers of Pennsylvania,” stated Kristie Bennardi, spokesperson for Keystone Rural Health Consortia.  “We will personally continue to do our part in reaching out to those in need of not only medical services but we want to expand our oral health reach into our surrounding communities and this funding allows us to do that.  We are actively recruiting a Full time Physician and a Full time Dentist to assist us in meeting the needs of the communities we serve.”

A total of thirty-eight Pennsylvania Community Health Centers received grant awards for the year 2014 under the program.
