Thompson Announces $190,000 for Warren County Career Center

Mar 16, 2009

Washington, DC – U.S. Representative GT Thompson, R-Howard, announced today that the Warren County Career Center (WCCC) will receive $190,000 in Federal funding through the Fiscal Year 2009 Omnibus Appropriations Bill.  Thompson’s predecessor, John Peterson, a former Member of the House Appropriations Committee requested the funds.

“Sound technical education in today’s global economy is more critical than ever before,” said Congressman GT Thompson, who is a Member of the House Education and Labor Committee. “In this increasingly competitive world, students in our region are not only competing with each other for jobs, but are now competing with job seekers in other states and countries. This Federal investment will further assist in providing first class training to the students and adults in the Warren County region who are looking to further refine their skill set to meet the demands of the modern workforce.”

This funding will specifically be utilized to purchase state-of-the art equipment and technology which will allow automotive technology students at the WCCC to train on the equipment that is currently used in the auto industry. These funds will assist both the high school and adult education program.

“On behalf of the Warren County Board of School Directors, staff of the Warren County Career Center, and more importantly, the career students of our county, I express my heartiest thanks and appreciation to the Congressmen for securing these federal dollars for the Automotive Technology program,” said Dr. Robert Terrill, Superintendent of the Warren County School District. “Preparing our automotive technology students with state-of-the art skills and knowledge strengthens the economy of not only Warren County, but the State of Pennsylvania and our great country.”

“The WCCC is one of the many technical education centers in the Fifth District that provides valuable services to our communities and students,” continued Thompson.  “As a member of the House Education and Labor Committee, I look forward to continuing a positive relationship with each of these institutions and providing the necessary support to see that resources are available to meet the needs of the ever changing workforce.”
