Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, announced today that Andrew Eck of Ferguson Township, Centre County, has accepted a fully-qualified appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.  Andrew is the son of Bernard and Julie Eck.

“It is an honor to announce that Andrew has accepted this appointment to West Point and I am grateful for his voluntary service to our nation,” said Congressman Thompson, whose son is a member of the 3rd Infantry Division, based at Fort Stewart in Georgia. “With a son in the Army, I know firsthand the caliber and character of an individual that will make a fine soldier and without a doubt Andrew fits that mold.”

Andrew, a senior at State College Area High School excels both in and out of the classroom.  While maintaining a 3.9 grade point average and ranking in the top 10 percent of his senior class, Andrew struck a balance between a rigorous academic schedule while also participating in several extracurricular activities, including cross country and track at State High. Andrew has also earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

“As a scout master for thirty plus years, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout is no small feat. Andrew’s training and ability to multitask and manage his time effectively will serve him well at the academy.  As a nation, we are eternally grateful to have an all volunteer military force. With young men and women of Andrew’s demeanor and work ethic, I have confidence that our future military leadership is in good hands.”

Andrew’s paternal grandparents are Walter and Joy Eck of Oval, Pa. and his maternal grandparents Bill and Tish Bonner are from Jersey Shore, Pa.
