Media Advisory: Thompson, Sue Paterno, and Disability Rights Advocates Will Hold Bellefonte Press Conference

Oct 14, 2016

Bellefonte, PA – U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) will join with disability rights advocates on Monday, Oct. 17, at 2 p.m., for a press conference at the Centre County Bar Association in Bellefonte, highlighting the Special Needs Trust Fairness and Medicaid Improvement Act, or H.R. 670.  The legislation, which was authored by Thompson, removes legal barriers that prevent people with disabilities from independently creating Special Needs Trusts, which are used to supplement daily living expenses and care that would not otherwise by covered by Medicaid and Social Security.  The measure passed the U.S. House of Representatives with broad bipartisan support in September, by a margin of 383 to 22.

The press conference was organized in conjunction with the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), which, at the event, will formally recognize Thompson’s efforts on behalf of people with disabilities.
