Clearfield Area High School Senior Danielle Anderson Wins Fifth Congressional District 2013 High School Art Competition

Washington, D.C. – Danielle Anderson of Clearfield, Pa., a senior at Clearfield Area High School, has won the 5th Congressional District’s 2013 High School Art Competition, which was sponsored by U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson.  Anderson's artwork, “Giraffe,” a colored pencil drawing, will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Complex in Washington, D.C. for the next year.

“Danielle is a tremendously talented individual and artist and her work is deserving of this recognition,” stated Rep. Thompson. “Ms. Anderson should be proud of this beautiful artwork which will now hang in the halls of the nation’s Capital for the world to enjoy.”

The contestants for the 2013 High School Art Competition were honored Saturday, May 4, 2013, at the Winkler Art Gallery in DuBois, Pa., at 36 N. Brady Street. The winning artworks will be displayed publically for the remainder of the week. 

“The artistic creativity of the students of the 5th District of Pennsylvania was on full display this week,” added Rep. Thompson. “I want to thank all participants for their hard work, along with the families, friends, supporters, teachers and judges for making this competition such a success.”

The entries were judged by local artists from across the 5th District, including Steve Hindman of Clearfield, Bev Verbeke of Erie, Christine Eckert of Lock Haven, and Susan Loskoski of DuBois.

  • 2nd place: “Summer Rain” by Alison Wright, a sophomore home schooled student from Coudersport, Pa. (Click here)
