Thompson Announces More than $2.4 Million for Calder Way Transportation Improvement Project
Funding will upgrade infrastructure, make safety improvements in Downtown State College
BELLEFONTE, Pa. – U.S. Representative Glenn “GT” Thompson (PA-15) today announced more than $2.4 million in federal funding for the Calder Way Transportation Improvement Project in State College.
The funding will advance critical upgrades to both above- and below-ground systems including the full replacement of water, sewer, and stormwater utilities. It will also enable the construction of a curb-less, multi-modal corridor that prioritizes accessibility, safety, and economic growth in the heart of downtown.
“State College is a vibrant community that welcomes millions of visitors each year, and prioritizing safety and accessibility downtown will help bolster the Borough,” Rep. Thompson said. “I was pleased to secure this funding and work with Mayor Nanes on this project to continue to strengthen and grow our community.”
“The $2.4 million federal investment secured by Congressman Thompson will support critical transportation improvements along Calder Way,” State College Mayor Ezra Nanes said. “The project will transform a heavily used downtown corridor into a safer, more accessible, bike- and pedestrian-prioritized space, while continuing to accommodate essential functions such as deliveries, utilities, and waste collection. We are grateful for the Congressman’s advocacy for State College and his efforts to advance investments that strengthen the safety, functionality, and vitality of downtown.”
Rep. Thompson secured the funding through Community Project Funding for Fiscal Year 2026.
